The 4th edition of Liberal Education Student Conference takes place in Berlin as off now. The Organising Committee has been extremely busy over the last half a year to bring coherence into the plenary programme and track sessions. The programme, keynotes, and the core reading have now been announced, so for those who are coming, you're in for a diverse and interesting long weekend! This year, particular care was taken to create the conditions for a thoughtful conversation on what liberal arts education means today, in the realities of Europe. Compared to the previous editions, LESC 2019 had attracted more participants with minority background and participants from Eastern Europe.
Hosting LESC 2019 is Bard College Berlin (BCB), a small residential liberal arts university occupying a few buildings in green Pankow district, most of them former embassies to GDR. What is now BCB started in 1999 as European College of Liberal Arts, and since then, the underlying vision of liberal arts education has changed at least twice; a few years back BCB has even created its own museum. If you like to learn more about ECLA/BCB, a good place to start is either reading this piece, or watching the movie from a public discussion about its history, or even better, take a look at some of the graduation-related entries on the BCB blog.
